Lifting Lefty

Lifting Lefty is the other work of fiction that I am querying to literary agents. It is also a novella, but a little longer than Little Brown Boats.

My newspaper training makes me want to be word-efficient, and attract readers. I am trying to go the traditional route, so far, in this long-anticipated career change, but a lot remains to be seen. So far, only encouragement in rejection from the agents, but that newspaper background also makes me want to turn in the story, and race off to the next one

But, it's not that way anymore.

I find myself frequently re-writing, re-editing them. Crafting them. I am what at least one YouTube writing vlogger calls an underwriter. Of course, I started off as an overwriter back in my Blinn College days many years ago.

I am getting there...

Lifting Lefty was originally just Lefty, but I discovered that a Facebook friend is winning awards with her own book by the same title, so I have gone to this new working title. It was Hiding Lefty briefly, but Lifting Lefty is a better fit.

It's a story borrowing from several real-life characters about a 48-year-old San Antonio man still searching for a lasting marriage, or strong relationship, after four divorces and too many ex-girlfriends. He partly overhears some baseball scouts, giving him a new idea.

Lefty, a right-hander, grows a lot with travel through his older brother's help, but still happens into what he had wanted in a very big way.

Both of these manuscripts could wind up on Amazon's KDP, or some other self-publishing format, but I would get printed in that good old fashion way if I can.
